Buderus Guss has played a decisive role in the development of lightweight brake discs. Weight-optimised car brake discs have been in series production at Buderus Guss since 2009.
Reduced-weight brake discs contribute to weight reduction in vehicles and thus play a part in reducing CO2 emissions.
Thanks to innovations in brake disc materials and in the connection technology between the friction ring and cup, Buderus Guss has achieved weight reductions of up to 24 percent compared to conventional brake discs in numerous model variants.
Up to 24 percent weight saving possible
The Buderus lightweight brake disc is a composite disc. The grey cast iron friction ring and the aluminium cup are connected with stainless steel pins. This has the advantage that the friction ring can expand freely under temperature compared to the connection. Independent of the aluminium cup, the friction ring is also weight-reduced. Weight optimisation of the friction ring was only possible with the material HClSi (Buderus cast iron patent).
